There was a time, not long ago, when I thought books were boring and a waste of time. I much rather played video games or watched television. The only books I read were schoolbooks and the occasional cookbook. I spent also a lot of time watching YouTube videos, some informational, others pure entertainment. Somewhere around the end of 2016 started to learn how important it is to read and got truly inspired. “Formal education will make you a living, but self-education will make you a fortune.”
First I was unsure what to read, novels, fiction, textbooks…? I found out that it’s important to read about all areas of life; health, wealth, love and happiness, as Tai Lopez told me. So I bought my first books and started to read, and have never looked back since. This year I’ve tried to read one book a week, and today I have read 27 books in six months already, more than I had read together in my 20 years before, by a good margin.
To maximize my learning I’ve used Evernote to summarize the books I’ve read and collected some inspirational and powerful quotes along the way. Sometimes it’s been easier, while sometimes I’ve been just too tired to take any notes. I will be talking about the benefits of note taking while reading in a later post. Anyway, I thought to myself, what better way to motivate myself, than to pay for a subscription for a website, and feel obliged to make the most out of it. This blog will be like my learning diary and you are all welcome to join aboard while I search for wisdom and enlightenment through books and articles, sometimes even reflecting on my own life.
I can’t say that books have changed my life, it’s a bit too early for that, but what I can say is this; the best investment you can make is in yourself, and reading books is just that. Hopefully this will become a great project that will last for a years to come and inspire and motivate me and many others.
